【Hong Kong, 12 August 2021】This afternoon, the Inauguration Ceremony of 9th Executive Committee of Federation of Beauty Industry (Hong Kong) (Committee) and the 5th Hong Kong Outstanding Beauty Salon & the 4th Hong Kong Outstanding Entrepreneur (Beauty Industry) Awards Ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wan Chai. Dr. Franki Lee, Director of Business Development & Compliance at STC (Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre), accepted the nomination, in representation of STC, as an Honorary Advisor of the Committee.
The Ceremony took place at Beauty & Wellness Expo in Hall 3E of the HKCEC in recognition of outstanding entrepreneurs and beauty salons. The officiating guests – the Deputy Director-General of the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office, the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, the Legislative Council Member in the Wholesale and Retail functional constituency and the President of the Committee – delivered speeches to encourage practitioners of the industry to keep up with the high standard of service. Welcomed by the enthusiastic audience and management from different sectors, awardees shared their feelings and business insights on the stage. In the ceremony, Dr. Franki Lee accepted the nomination on behalf of STC as an Honorary Advisor of the current Committee, pledging continued diligence in providing professional advice for the quality of beauty products. STC will keep on assisting the industry to enhance the quality of their products and services, also allow users’ swift identification of safe and qualified beauty products, in which they then have more confidence.
As a partner of the beauty industry and a pioneering organization in the testing and certification field, STC has been dedicating to the provision of quality and safety testing for beauty products. Accredited by governments of countries, STC is capable of performing testing in accordance with international safety standards, e.g. the European standard and guide Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), European Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 and standards set by the US Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).
To ensure safety and quality of beauty products, STC provides heavy metal analysis, microbiological tests and estrogen screening tests. For skin and hair care products, STC can follow the Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015) for safety tests, which include heavy metal contaminants (lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium), harmful chemicals (methanol, formaldehyde, 1,4-dioxane and benzene), microbial limits, detection of fluorescent substances (in paper masks), m-diaminobenzene (hair dye products) and minoxidil (hair growth products). STC can also follow GB 7916 or Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015) for microbiological tests of cosmetics, covering standard plate count, fecal coliforms, pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus aureus, aerobic bacterial count, thermotolerant coliform bacteria, molds and yeast count, to examine hygiene of cosmetics comprehensively. STC even launched the Estrogen Safe Mark by performing estrogen tests on cosmetics, skin care products and dairy products, in order to avoid users’ excessive intake of estrogen which causes adverse effects to their bodies. Consumers are now able to identify whether the products are with acceptable level of estrogen simply by sight of the Estrogen Safe Mark.
